Information
One of the oldest estates in Sauternais, the Château Coutet vineyard is also the largest in Barsac. Its soil is even, made up of fine gravel, calcareous silt and alluvium deposited by the Garonne. The estate also produces a creamy wine with incredible richness: the Cuvée Madame (production limited to 1,200 bottles in the best vintages) which rivals the Château d'Yquem. Its wines are well-crafted and characteristic, with fantastic creaminess and intense notes of citrus fruits, tropical fruits and honey.
The second wine of Château Coutet since 1977, La Chartreuse de Coutet has a beautiful robe and particularly fresh bouquet. White flowers, fresh fruits and also ripe fruits are present on the palate which is well rounded and balanced by good acidity. Spiced and honey notes make it the perfect pairing for festive dishes such as turkey in maple syrup, chestnuts and pumpkin puree. As for the winemaking, the grapes are picked as the noble rot forms, meaning that several harvests take place (normally around 6 to 8). The wine is then raised for 18 months in oak fûts (40% new).
