Information
Joseph Perrier founded this small champagne house in Châlons-en-Champagne in 1825. Laurent-Perrier was the proprietor for a brief period before Alain Thiénot took over in 1998. The company produces a range of high quality wines from non-vintage Brut (Royale) through to one of the most refined prestige cuvées in Champagne, Joséphine, which is systematically bottle-matured for more than a decade. The house owns 21 hectares of vineyard which provide 25% of its needs. The remainder comes from 30 crus in Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and the Vitry region.
A truly exceptional cuvée, Joséphine takes its name from a beautiful story: when marrying off his daughter of that name, Joseph Perrier gave her the best of his blends. Produced only when the vintage permits, this cuvée has often graced the tables of the Russian czar and the kings of England. It has a distinctively noble design, hand-painted onto glass and decorated with fine gold. It is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from grand cru terroirs. The low dosage (4.5g/L) enables them to exude intense floral notes. The palate is a perfect balance of vivacity and vinosity. This ensures it will be superb at the table, with flavoursome and/or delicate dishes.
