Information
Patrick and Christophe Bonnefond are the sons of a winegrower who sold grapes to the local negoçiant (Jaboulet). In 1990, they took over the family domaine and made the decision to produce the wine themselves. Their offerings very quickly seduced the critics. These two brothers shy away from the media, preferring a quiet life cultivating their vines on magnificent terroir and producing elegant wines. Domaine Bonnefond have found the perfect balance between the tradition of their terroir and the modernity of their methods. The estate covers 6 hectares on the Côte Brune of Condrieu, allowing them to produce an aromatic white. The steep slopes of Les Rochains and the Côte Rozier in the Côte-Rôtie appellation are worked only by hand. In the winery, the Bonnefond brothers choose to élevage their wines in oak for at least 20 months. The red wines from this domaine show excellent cellaring potential. Two cuvées in particular from this domaine stand out: Côte Rozier and Les Rochains. Two fine cuvées that are the model of intensity, complexity and long finish
Patrick and Christophe Bonnefond have created the cuvée "Colline de Couzou" from the name of the locality, which is particularly steep with vineyards all located on Côte Brune. Planted in terraces on the very sloping hillside of Semons in the commune of Tupin Semons, the vines are blessed with granite soil, typical of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. A fine wine for keeping, it immediately entices us with its intense and concentrated aromas of black fruit and spices. Young, the wine is clean and almost austere. Over time, it becomes more flavoursome and increasingly generous. It should therefore be kept in the cellar for several years so that the full potential of this cuvée can eventually be appreciated.
