Information
The two brothers Benjamin and David Duclaux manage this domaine, created in 1928 by their great grandfather. Together they cultivate, by hand, 5.8 hectares of vines on the steep slopes of Tupons and Semons to make elegant Côte-Rôtie. Love and care goes into both viticulture and vinification and the grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness. Maturation is long and new oak is used in moderation. These wines seduce critics thanks to their ability to offer an elegant reflection of the gneiss rich soil so prolific in the southern terroirs of the Côte-Rôtie and a skilled maturation that gives them well integrated oak.
Maison Rouge is an extremely elegant Syrah single grape variety: the tannins are refined, the palate is dense and silky and the aromas exude small notes of black fruit and spices. It has been cultivated very carefully, both in the vineyards and in the cellar. The grapes, which are blessed with a terroir of gneiss bedrock, are manually harvested, fully destemmed and macerated for 3 weeks in thermo-regulated vats. The wine is then aged in barriques and demi-muid barrels for 20 months. This is a very fine cuvée that will pair beautifully with truffle risotto and game with porcini mushrooms.
