Information
The two brothers Benjamin and David Duclaux manage this domaine, created in 1928 by their great grandfather. Together they cultivate, by hand, 5.8 hectares of vines on the steep slopes of Tupons and Semons to make elegant Côte-Rôtie. Love and care goes into both viticulture and vinification and the grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness. Maturation is long and new oak is used in moderation. These wines seduce critics thanks to their ability to offer an elegant reflection of the gneiss rich soil so prolific in the southern terroirs of the Côte-Rôtie and a skilled maturation that gives them well integrated oak.
This Côte-Rôtie is made from Syrah and a very tiny part of Viognier (5%), a white grape from the Rhône valley. Both have benefited from careful growth on terraces made of gneiss. The grapes are harvested by hand before being 100% destemmed and macerated for 3 weeks in temperature-controlled vats. 30 months’ ageing in barriques and demi-muid barrels allows the red wine to develop its fruity and floral aromas. The tannins are fine, even elegant. Crunchy on the palate, it showcases fruity notes. Its fleshy character means it pairs well with sauce-based meat.
