Information
Domain Jo Pithon is a gem in the Côteaux du Layon. Jo Pithon and his wife Isabelle Paillé bought the seven hectares in 1996. At the time, the land was completely uncultivated and covered in shrubs. Their vineyards have never seen chemical products as even though vines were planted there in the 1960s, with the arrival of mechanic viticulture, slopes that were judged too steep were completely abandoned. These very steep (30% to 70%), south-facing slopes are organically farmed, something which demands a lot of work. For Jo, “if you want to use the term terroir when describing a wine, you need the soil to be living, and organic is the least you can do”. Jo Pithon thus produces vibrant, luminous wines: Coteau des Treilles or Belargus des Treilles, to name just a couple. The domain was sold in 2018 to Ivan Massonat, who also owns the 25-hectare domain Belargus.
A Coteau du Layon with an intense, almost amber colour. Aromas of ripe fruits on the nose (apple and honeyed pears). There is a surprising freshness on the palate, with a fruitiness present throughout. Open long before tasting to allow the wine to reveal its full potential.
