Information
Wine has featured prominently in this family since the 14th century and a passion for Grenache, king of grapes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, has been passed on down the generations. The present-day property covers some 15 hectares, primarily in the north, north-eastern part of this illustrious appellation. Every step is taken to allow the vines to express their potential as nature intended. This means natural fertilisers, manual harvests and only the very best grape clusters. The vinification process is slow and low-intervention. Julien Barrot and his eldest sister Laetitia currently run the business. The wines have great finesse and are delightfully fruity.
The fruit of careful work in vineyard and cellar alike (gentle extractions, long and delicate élevage), this Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of different parcels and grape varieties grown in the soils so typical of the appellation; that is, yellow and red sand, clay, limestone and pudding stones. After élevage in old wooden tuns and demi-muid barrels for a year and a half, the wine is bottled, without filtration. The domain has produced a wine with a strong personality characterised by refined, silky tannins, cocoa aromas and ripe black berries. A great wine to be kept for a few years.
