Information
The Poggio Scalette domaine owes it name to the shape of its vineyards, which are planted in terraces separated by low stone walls. The estate is located in a little hilltop town in the Greve commune in the north-east of the Chianti appellation. This vineyard, which was planted with Sangiovese after World War I, produces one of the finest “Super Tuscans”, of which the Il Carbonaione cuvée is an outstanding example. This wine, whose first vintage dates from 1992, does not conform to the Chianti appellation, whose specification outlaws single varietal Sangiovese wines. The vineyard is organically managed.
The domain's Chianti Classico has a deep garnet visual aspect. On the nose, it presents a bouquet of fruits consisting of cherry, plum and quince. The palate is juicy, aromatic and complex, with smoky notes. This wine can easily be kept for several years.
