Information
Nervi is the oldest working domaine in Gattinara, a village in the northern Piedmont. The volcanic soil gives the Nebbiolo grapes (known locally as “spanna”) an outstanding subtlety. The aromas of the wine reap the benefit of the temperate climate in these beautiful hills which are sheltered from the north winds by the Monte Rose massif and protected from the summer heat by their good height above sea level. While it is not among the big-hitters Nervi, probably produces some of the finest wines in Italy from its 24 hectares of vines.
This Coste della Sesia Spanna is produced from four parcels located between 290 and 425 metres above sea level. It is a rich, concentrated, balanced and elegant wine. It is very fruity and benefits from being allowed to breathe before drinking to allow its stewed fruit and dark berry notes to develop.
