Information
The Montevertine domaine is located in the Chianti region. Sergio Manetti bought this land in the late 1960s as a second home. He then planted vines and set up a little cellar with a view to producing a small amount of wine for personal consumption and for family and friends. Eventually, after his first vintage (1971), he decided to enter his wine in competitions where it was well received. This steel producer therefore decided to devote himself full-time to his vineyard until his death in 2000. His son Martino Manetti, has taken over the reins of the domaine. The vineyards span 18 hectares, at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level. Martino Manetti rejects international grape varieties and tends his terroir with loving care. The vines are cultivated using biodynamic practices, although Martino has not sought formal certification.
Montevetrano is vinified in stainless steel tanks, with malolactic fermentation being conducted in barrels; élevage lasts for 12-14 months (10% new wood). Tasting reveals distinctive black berry aromas and spicy licorice, tobacco and leather notes. The palate combines power and elegance thanks to its velvety tannins.
