Information
Yves Gangloff is a major figure in the Rhône Valley and an artistic winemaker who expresses a unique sensibility through his wines. A rock music fan from the Alsace region, with a somewhat bohemian lifestyle, Yves settled in the area after meeting his future wife Mathilde when he was staying with his brother at the Château d'Ampuis in the 1970s. To make a living he started working as a labourer at Domaine Delas. Here, on the steep terraces of the Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu he got a feel for and learned the basics of viticulture. At the same time, Gaston Andre, a local winegrower offered the couple a plot of vines. And so the Gangloff myth began. In the early days, Mathilde and Yves sold their grapes to the trade but in 1992 they bottled their first vintage. Success came quickly so they expanded their vineyards which have been managed by their children Loup and Elsa since Mathilde's death in 2011.
Yves Gangloff is one of the winemakers who have revived the fortunes of the Saint-Joseph appellation. His own offering is produced, in small quantities, from Syrah vines planted on terraces south of Condrieu. This wine combines refinement, elegance and power with aromas of red and black berries, flowers, and other more complex truffle aromas. The palate is elegant, magnified by a silky texture and mellow tannins. This is a wine for keeping very carefully and serving to enhance a dish such as a Provence-style leg of lamb.
