Information
Jean-Pierre Chevalier's parents (winegrowers for three generations) bought Château de Villeneuve in 1969. Vines have existed on the property since the 16th century. There are 16 hectares of Chenin and 20 hectares of Cabernet Franc planted on limestone bedrock. The châteaux of this region are built from this same material. The vineyard has organic certification and Jean-Pierre Chevallier run the estate, producing terroir driven wines with great purity and freshness. A reference of Saumur-Champigny.
Made from Chenin, an emblematic grape variety of the Loire, this Saumur comes from clay and limestone soils. In the cellar, Jean-Pierre Chevallier slowly ferments it in 600 litre barriques called “tonnes”. The 4-month ageing on fine lees gives it roundness and complexity. Its aromatic complexity subtly mixes floral and citrus notes. Its iodised finish means it can be tasted with marine products (fish or seafood) or to be served as an apéritif to awaken the taste buds without saturating them.
