Laurent Roumier, the cousin of Christophe (from the George Roumier domain) has long been associated with his brother. Since 1991 he has managed a four hectare-domain of rented vineyards, which he increased to seven hectares in 2005. These vineyards spread over the Bourgogne, Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny, Clos Vougeot and Bonnes-Mares appellations. Laurent Roumier traditionally cultivates and vinifies using the old methods of treading and pumping over, without a pre-fermentation "cold soak", followed by a 15 to 18 month maturation in oak casks.
A man of few words, Laurent is fairly secretive when it comes to his "savoir-faire". However, his mastery is highly regarded amongst enlightened connoisseurs. The Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru reveals aromas of small red fruits, Morello cherry, earthy, spicy and very slightly woody notes. On the palate it is very delicate and round, with a very noticeable length.
