Information
After studying oenology in Beaune, Bernard Baudry started his career as a winemaking consultant in a laboratory, before setting up on his own in 1975 on a small two hectare domaine. In 2000, his son Matthieu came to work with him. Together, they strive to give expression to the richness of the Cabernet Franc grape, while at the same time preserving the typical characteristics of each terroir. Today they have a 32 hectare vineyard in the Chinon appellation, in the communes of Cravant les Coteaux and Chinon. In the vineyard, Cabernet Franc is complemented by 10% of Chenin. The terroirs are varied and the soil contains gravel on the plain, clay limestone on the hillside slopes and sandy limestone on the plateau - all this diversity results in parcel-based winemaking. Since the outset, there has been an environmentally friendly approach at the vineyard, and since 2006 it has been run organically; the soil is rebalanced using compost based on cow manure and straw. Characterised by their elegance, purity and freshness, the wines from this domaine are among the most sought-after for the appellation.
The Chinon of Domaine Bernard Baudry is made from 30 to 35 year old vines on a soil of 70% gravel and 30% hillside clays. This wine is structured. ageing in barriques for twelve months means this wine has finesse and elegance. It has good ageing potential, from 5 to 10 years.
