Information
La Tour du Bon owes its name to the watchtower which once stood on the highest point of this domaine, protecting the village from approaching danger. The first vineyards were planted here in 1955 and the Hoquard family acquired the property in 1968, carrying out major works on the vineyard before their daughter Agnès took to the helm in 1990. Agnès still runs the domaine today, which continues to improve year on year. The vineyard has been certififed organic since 2014 and their wines have distinct personality and harmony, with excellent cellaring potential.
The classic red wine from this domaine, whose composite grape varities produce great aromatic complexity; Grenache exhibits notes of kirsch whilst Mourvèdre presents a hint of spice and pepper and the Cinsault unifies the whole. The tannins develop with time to form a silky, delicate structure. The vineyard is organic and vines are grown in loamy clay-limestone soil with areas of marl. Harvests are manual, followed by 90% de-stemming of the fruit and a two week maceration period using indigenous yeasts. The wine matures in foudre for 24 months and is bottled without fining or filtration.
