Information
"Être sobre, c’est boire bon,” or “Being sober is drinking well". This is the estate’s motto, which you’ll find on the label. It perfectly summarises the hedonistic spirit of these wines, full, concentrated, fruity yet delicate and fine. The estate was founded in 1959 following the marriage of Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot in 1954. Vincent Geantet now works in tandem with his son, Fabien. The estate, based in Gevrey-Chambertin, covers 22 hectares of limestone and clay-limestone soils in villages, premier crus, Marsannay, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Chambolle-Musigny appellations. The estate holds a sustainable agriculture label, 100% of the grapes are destemmed and fermentation is exclusively triggered by native yeasts. Ageing is conducted in Burgundy casks.
This estate is a safe bet in the Côte de Nuits. Vincent’s daughter, Émilie Geantet, is currently establishing a wine-trading business under her name, producing more robust wines than those of the estate.
Le Poissenot is aged for 14 months in barrels of which 30% are new. On the nose, it presents red fruit aromas and faintly spicy notes. On the palate it is concentrated, deep and fruity with great length. A wine that pairs well with red meat and duck.
