Information
Roberto Voerzio, who belongs to a winemaking family, decided to go it alone in 1986 on a 2-hectare plot on the family vineyard. His domaine has gradually acquired a fine reputation for its quality wines, which offer a perfect combination of power and elegance. He is now one of the Barolo big hitters. Accomplished wine grower and skilful vintner Roberto Voerzio specialises in high-density planting and very low yields with a view to distilling the quintessence of his terroirs. He is known notably for creating the very opposite of powerful, extracted and woody wines. Voerzio reflects the ethos of combining modernity and tradition and his bottles are iconic and authentic.
While prestigious, this fine Barolo displays a slightly austere character in its youth. As you will have gathered, a few years’ cellaring will greatly benefit this wine, which will then unveil its full potential and its rich notes of stewed fruit, coffee, liquorice and herbs. Structured by firm tannins, this wine is remarkably well balanced, making it a perfect match for characterful dishes such as duck Parmentier with sweet potato or confit lamb. The estate, which has become a benchmark in the appellation in just a few years, is committed to healthy viticultural methods, even without being certified. No synthetic molecules (fungicides or herbicides) are used and, to ensure high berry concentration, the vines are planted at a high density and green harvesting is performed. In the winery, native yeasts trigger the fermentation process in inert containers. The wine is matured for a considerable time in small vessels.
