Information
Located on the outskirts of the village of Montalcino, the Colle al Matrichese de Conti Costanti vineyard produces some of the most sought-after wines in the Brunello di Montalcino DOC, including the ultra-scarce Riserva. The Costanti family is intimately associated with the history of the village as it was involved in the wars between Florence and Sienna. The Costanti were ennobled in 1711 by the court of Venice for their bravery. Since then, from father to son, the family has been a standard bearer for the vineyard both in Italy and internationally. Andrea Costanti has been at the helm of the domaine since 1983. Wines have become even more delicate and complex.
The Rosso di Montalcino from this region, which enjoys iconic status in Tuscany (and indeed Italy as a whole!), has been matured for 12 months in French oak barrels and three-year-old demi-muids. Slightly austere in its youth, it reveals astonishing charm after several years' keeping. This takes the form of an intense fruitiness, unparalleled depth and a freshness which lends exactly the right amount of balance.
