Information
Wine has featured prominently in this family since the 14th century and a passion for Grenache, king of grapes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, has been passed on down the generations. The present-day property covers some 15 hectares, primarily in the north, north-eastern part of this illustrious appellation. Every step is taken to allow the vines to express their potential as nature intended. This means natural fertilisers, manual harvests and only the very best grape clusters. The vinification process is slow and low-intervention. Julien Barrot and his eldest sister Laetitia currently run the business. The wines have great finesse and are delightfully fruity.
Remaining true to its passion for Grenache, the domain produces the Signature cuvée, dominated by the aforementioned grape and complemented with Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. Mourvèdre and Syrah are matured on fine lees in Burgundy barrique barrels used two or three times before. The other grape varieties are matured in wooden tuns, stainless steel and steel vats. The wine is then matured for a year and a half and bottled without filtration. Powerful and delicate, it reveals itself firstly through a pretty dark red colour hinting at the black berry aromas and spicy notes to follow. The palate is marked by seductive flavours in the same register, and assertive tannins that are refined with time. A wine to be enjoyed with a goulash.
