Information
Le Clos Floridène, located in the Graves near Barsac (near the villages Pujols-sur-Ciron and Illats). Its history will remain forever linked to its founder Denis Dubourdieu, also known as Pope of the white wines. He created this domain and restored its vines to make it one of the references of the appellation. The wines are flamboyant, balanced, and never too marked by the wood, even in their youth. Today, the two sons of Denis Dubourdieu, Fabrice and Jean-Jacques continue the family heritage in the five family properties (Château Doisy-Daëne, Clos Floridène, Château Reynon, Château Cantegril and Château Haura).
The property’s vines, which are 25 years old on average, are planted on 40 hectares (15 for red and 25 for white). The grapes are harvested by hand and drastically sorted before vinification. Cabernet Sauvignon makes up 74% of the red vines with Cabernet Franc making up the remaining 26%, while Sémillon makes up 53%, Sauvignon Blanc amounts for 45% and Muscadelle 2%. Each year, about 160,000 bottles of wine are produced.
The red of Clos Floridène is matured in oak barrels for 12 months. Cabernet-Sauvignon cultivated on limestone soil gives here an unusual wine for Bordeaux, a cuvée of pleasure. The bouquet combines red and black fruits (blackcurrant, wild strawberry), notes of mint and licorice. On the palate, fruity flavors are found, with a silky, tannic and fresh material.
