Information
Isabel Ferrando, a former banker, bought Domaine Saint-Préfert in 2003. The vineyard was planted in 1930 on gravel and pebble soils on the southern side of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Isabel has been producing three cuvées of Châteauneuf-du-Pape red since the beginning of her winemaking career. Her wines reflect the appellation's warm, well-drained and sunny terroir to perfection, and are therefore imbued with candied, chocolatey and empyreumatic notes. Thanks to this determined woman's endeavours, this sustainably-run property is one of the top names in the appellation.
This single-variety Grenache wine has become a symbol of power, roundness and generosity. To achieve this impressive result, Isabel Ferrando employs a gentle vatting method without extraction. No external yeasts are added. The wine is then matured for one year in 300-litre demi-muid barrels. This parcel-based selection draws upon an exceptional terroir of red clay, safres (sandstone/loam sediment) and sand from the Rayas area. This organically certified wine has an incredible aromatic intensity marked by black berries, fruit brandy, spices and roasted notes. The same generosity is found in the mouth, with a fruity richness that coats the prominent but well-mellowed tannins. A great wine made for keeping.
