Information
Clos Lunelles is located on clay and limestone hillsides, grown with Merlot (80%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). Bought by Gérard Perse in 2001, it was formerly known as Château Lapeyronie. The vines are farmed with the aim of producing low yields and concentrated grapes. His gamble paid off, and the wines have been lauded by leading professionals.
Clos des Lunelles’s vines are situated on the Sainte Colombe plateau at the peak of the Côtes de Castillon and produce wine within the Castillon-Côtes-de-Bordeaux AOC. Merlot, Cabernet-Franc and Cabernet-Sauvignon vines are green harvested and then leaf-stripped twice over the summer to allow more sunlight and heat to reach the grapes. The grapes are then hand-picked and meticulously sorted. The first fermentation takes place in thermoregulated vats. A second, malolactic fermentation is carried out in oak barriques. The wine is then raised for a year and a half to two years before bottling. This cuvée is a true success and has seduced the likes of Robert Parker and Bernard Burtschy who laud its delicate yet rich character and the finesse of its tannins.
