Information
Wine has featured prominently in this family since the 14th century and a passion for Grenache, king of grapes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, has been passed on down the generations. The present-day property covers some 15 hectares, primarily in the north, north-eastern part of this illustrious appellation. Every step is taken to allow the vines to express their potential as nature intended. This means natural fertilisers, manual harvests and only the very best grape clusters. The vinification process is slow and low-intervention. Julien Barrot and his eldest sister Laetitia currently run the business. The wines have great finesse and are delightfully fruity.
Exacting vineyard work is needed to create the Pure cuvée. Careful debudding, cluster thinning, manual harvesting and double sorting passes are all used. In the cellar, the wines are vinified in buried concrete vats. The grapes macerate for over a month and are lightly extracted. Next, the wine is matured in old wooden tuns for 18 months. The wine is bottled without filtration. This wine has a very pretty ruby colour, and a bouquet perfumed with touches of raspberries, wild strawberries and flowers. The tannins are extremely refined, and the length is truly astonishing. A wine with great potential for keeping.
