Information
Domaine de la Madone is located, unsurpisingly, in La Madone, a very favourable position for a Fleurie cru as it has an optimal climate for the cultivation of Gamay grapes. Not only does it receive plenty of sunlight but the soil is composed of pink granite. The Despres family have been running this domain for five generations and sustainably cultivate their 13 hectacres. The harvests are carried out by hand and the berries are carefully sorted so that only the ripest and healthiest ones make it to the press. The vinification process adheres to local standard practice which results in a wine that beautifully reflects its terroir. This domain's cuvées can be drunk young or aged for a few years and is thus a wine that will satisfy both the impatient amongst us as well as the more sensible!
This cuvée comes from the estate’s old vines, aged between 70 and 100 years old, that are planted on granitic soil. The yeilds are low and the grapes are smaller so the resulting wine is concentrated and reveals its finesse after a few years in the cellar.
