Information
For many years Château Montbousquet was a commercial wine with no particular characteristics due to excessive yields. Since 1993 when the Perse family took over the property, numerous investments have been made, resulting in a marked improvement in the wine's quality.
At first the estate only made reds, but the first Monbousquet white wine appeared in the 1990s, pushed through by the current owner and upon advice from world-renowned oenologist Michel Rolland. It remains an exclusive, restricted wine, and one of Saint-Emilion's very few whites. The originality of grape varieties in the region, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, combined with ageing on lees in new barrels and with consistent stirring, results in a wine characterised by fruity, peach and citrus aromas (grapefruit, lemon) with a dash of something buttery. It boasts thick, dense texture and spectacular length on the palate. This cuvée is proof that excellent white wines can indeed be produced near the village of Saint-Emilion!
