Information
The Napa Valley is an American wine-growing region in Napa county, California. It is deemed to be one of the United States' most prestigious wine-producing areas with a heritage that dates back to the 19th century. It enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Charles Krug was the first to create a winery in the region in 1861. Since then, many leading French names have joined him, including Moueix, Rothschild, Moët et Chandon, Taittinger and Mumm. Screaming Eagle is an estate in the Napa Valley, located in Oakville and founded in 1989 by Jean Phillips. This small winery is perched on the top of a hill overlooking the vineyard. In 2006, the estate was bought by two sports managers who hired a new oenologist and embarked on a mission to replant the vineyard. The wine is aged in new (65%) French barrels for two years. The majority is sold in assignments via mailing list, as only a small quantity is available. Robert Parker graded the 1997 vintage 100/100, with the wine achieving the same a decade later in 2007.
