Information
Patrick and Christophe Bonnefond are the sons of a winegrower who sold grapes to the local negoçiant (Jaboulet). In 1990, they took over the family domaine and made the decision to produce the wine themselves. Their offerings very quickly seduced the critics. These two brothers shy away from the media, preferring a quiet life cultivating their vines on magnificent terroir and producing elegant wines. Domaine Bonnefond have found the perfect balance between the tradition of their terroir and the modernity of their methods. The estate covers 6 hectares on the Côte Brune of Condrieu, allowing them to produce an aromatic white. The steep slopes of Les Rochains and the Côte Rozier in the Côte-Rôtie appellation are worked only by hand. In the winery, the Bonnefond brothers choose to élevage their wines in oak for at least 20 months. The red wines from this domaine show excellent cellaring potential. Two cuvées in particular from this domaine stand out: Côte Rozier and Les Rochains. Two fine cuvées that are the model of intensity, complexity and long finish
This is a Côte-Rôtie from one of the domain’s finest plots: Les Rochains. The vines grow on very steep hillsides and are cultivated by hand. Expert at ageing in new barriques, the Bonnefond brothers have made a dense, rich, concentrated Côte-Rôtie, woody yet elegant. The rich nose exudes aromas of black fruit, spices and vanilla, which suggests ageing in new wood. Flavoursome and generous, its tannins are highly refined, especially after several years in the cellar. Its long and spicy finish means it can be enjoyed with a flavoursome cut of meat.
