Information
The Confuron domain was taken over in 1988 by Alain and Sophie Meunier. Situated at Premeaux-Prissey very near to Nuit-Saints-Saint-Georges, the domain belonged to Sophie's father. They decided to convert to organic viticulture. Today, the vineyards count 8 hectares and produce 12 Côte de Nuits appellations. Among them are included the prestigious Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, Clos de Vougeot and Romanée Saint-Vivant Grands Crus. Since 2003, horses are used to work the domain's oldest parcel, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, which is 80 years old.
Romanée Saint-Vivant is situated just below Romanée Conti, next to the village of Vosne-Romanée. This Grand Cru covers just under nine hectares. The Pinot Noir here produces great wines on deep brown limestone-clay soils. A few domains share this parcel: Domaine Louis Latour, Domaine de la Romanée Conti and Robert Arnaux, Confuron. Romanée Saint-Vivant is a powerful yet charming wine: robust, well-structured and always very well-balanced. They develop intense aromas, typical of fine Burgundies: ripe or candied red and dark fruits, musk, leather and humus. A lingering and fabulously rich aroma are what make this cru one of the world's greatest wines. Several decades of cellaring are often required for this wine to reach its best. The rich, voluptuous and complex wines from the Confuron domain are a delight to the palate.
