Information
Côtes de Nuits connoisseurs will tell you that the name Gros covers several different domains. The original Louis Gros domain was divided up between his three children, which resulted in the Gros Frère et Soeur, François Gros and Jean Gros domains at the beginning of the 1970s. In 1995 Jean Gros retired and shared his domain between his three children: Michel, Anne-Françoise (François Parent's wife, the owner of the Domaine AF Gros at Pommard), and Bernard Gros (manager of the Gros Frère et Soeur domain). Michel Gros had already started to work with his father Jean on the family domain when in 1979 he became owner of two hectares of Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, inherited from his father. Over time, the domain has expanded into the Haute-Côtes. Then in 1995 he received the Clos des Réas monopole, Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, two Nuits-Saint-Georges parcels, one Vosne-Romanée parcel and a Burgundy parcel. In 1997 the Écard family (GFA des Arbaupins), entrusted their 3.50 hectare-domain, situated at Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, to Michel. Today the domain counts 19 hectares.
Clos des Réas is located on the border of the Nuit-Saint-Georges appellation. It is a 2.12-hectare monopole of the domaine. It was purchased in 1860 by Alphonse Gros. It is a very concentrated, full-bodied wine with subtly spiced aromas.
