Information
Domaine de Nalys is made up of around 50 hectares of vines to the east of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, planted on the three great terroirs of Castepapal. They all lie on hillsides on the way to Courthézon. The previous owner, doctor Duffays, contributed to making this appellation's white wines known, which represent 15% of production. At the end of July 2017, the Guigal house announced that it had bought the damine de Nalys from Groupama. Located in the southern part of the Rhone valley, it had belonged to the group since 1975. This purchase allowed Guigal to set up definitively in the south, where it had previously just ran a merchant business. Domaine de Nalys sells around 300,000 bottles a year in collaboration with 40 other winemakers in the area. Nowadays, a dozen winemakers cultivate 13 grape varieties on the domain (Grenache gris, noir and blanc, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin, Vaccarèse, Terret noir, Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Picardan, Piquepoul) following low-intervention agricultural methods.
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape comes from a blend of several plots that each have their own identity: the Bois de la Ville and les Serres provide very concentrated juice, Farguerol and Cansaud provide extreme aromatic richness thanks to the red clay and finally the chalk-rich soils of Cabrières and Revès give incredible structure to the wine. On the nose, red fruit prevail accompanied by a slight woodiness. On the palate, the tannins are melted and elegant. The length is exceptional and over time the aromas of sous-bois, leather or tobacco can evolve.
