Information
From one of the oldest families of wine growers in Burgundy, Bernard Gros is today at the head of Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur, which has a total of 21 hectares and an absolutely exceptional grand cru heritage: Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, Grands Echezeaux and Echezeaux. The 36.62 acre vineyard of Grands-échezeaux runs along Clos de Vougeot. Domaine Gros Frère & Soeur is located in Vosne Romanée. A dozen years ago, Bernard Gros replanted the vines to improve the quality. His wines are regularly hailed by critics.
Adjacent to Clos de Vougeot, Grand-Échézeaux borders the south-west side and is situated on the slopes over several hamlets. Grand-Échézeaux produces a bright, deeply-coloured wine. As a young wine it develops fine aromas that evoke cherry and cocoa beans, a rare and fine quality sought after in the "climat". As it ages, its fragrances mature into notes of undergrowth, truffle, fine leather and sometimes an almost imperceptible touch of cigar and cedar. Its noble, fine-grained tannins have just the right combination of silkiness and freshness. The finish is extremely long and echoes the same elegant sensations experienced on the nose. Drunk young, this wine is fairly vigorous, whereas after 12 to 15 years of cellaring it becomes subtle and racy.
