Information
Created in 1903, the Domaine Etienne Sauzet has been producing Montrachet since the 1993 vintage. Gérard Boudot, (married to Etienne Sauzet’s grand-daughter) has managed it since 1974 and improved the domaine from the mid-1980s. Limited yields, harvesting as late as possible and classic vinification marked by débourbage (which allows very fine sur lie aging) contribute to creating wines of a very consistent and an exemplary finesse, unanimously hailed by French and foreign wine lovers. Since 1989, following a division of the domaine, Gérard Boudot, has also been trading and buying grape must to complete his production, without affecting quality. The domaine extends over 9 hectares.
A policy of restricted yields and harvesting as late as possible, followed by a traditional vinification process characterised by racking (which allows maturation on very fine lees), plays its part in creating wines of great consistency and exemplary finesse, unanimously acclaimed by French and foreign connoisseurs alike. Located below Le Montrachet, Bâtard Montrachet is considered to be one of the greatest white wines in the world. With its clear golden colour, it develops towards golden yellow while developing a bouquet of an exceptional power. This rich, complex wine has aromas of lemon, butter, almond, honey and spices. Powerful and majestic, Domaine Sauzet's Bâtard Montrachet is one of the appellation's benchmark wines. Produced from vines with an average age of 30 years and vinified in 50% new oak barrels, it takes an average of eight years' cellaring to reach perfect maturity.
