Information
It is to the fabulous Grand Cru Musigny, of which he is the main owner, that Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé owes its world fame. Along with the AOC vineyards at Chambolle-Musigny and Bonnes Mares, the Comte de Vogüé domain owns 70% of the Musigny region. It is also the only one to produce white as the appellation decree allows it. Today, Baroness Bertrand de Ladoucette, from a long line of de Vogüés, directs the estate. In 1986 she hired well-known oenologist, François Millet, to manage the domain. He applied his philosophy of minimum intervention in the winemaking process. Ignoring market trends that encourage vineyards to produce “ready to drink” wines, his approach consists in getting the best out of each harvest and is quite the contrary. Whether the vintage promises to be exceptional or not, quality remains the priority. Since then it has been very successful and remains the most prestigious house in Chambolle-Musigny. Moreover, the domain does not hesitate to downgrade all the grapes coming from vines judged not old enough.
Les Amoureuses Premier Cru is one of the most sought-after wines in the Chambolle-Musigny appellation. The name might have something to do with that, but this climat’s outstanding quality is explained by its location, just below Musigny. Comte Georges de Vogüé Les Amoureuses Premier Cru combines refinement with an exquisite fragrance, sumptuousness, and structure. It is an excellent example of this style of wine and equals or even surpasses many grand crus.
