Bordeaux | 1998 vintage
An outstanding vintage. A hot and dry climate produced perfectly ripe grapes with thick skins, which protected them from the torrential rains in September. The great châteaux rigorously selected their grapes and as a result produced fine, elegant and complex wines. Pomerol and Saint-Emilion made powerful and mellow wines. Graves and Margaux were finer and fruitier than the other crus. The sweet wines were on the whole fruity and elegant, though not as full as those in 1997.
