Bordeaux | 1990 vintage
An extraordinary vintage both in quality and quantity. The second hottest year of the century since 1947 and the sunniest since 1949. Most of the Chateaux harvested highly concentrated grapes. The high volume of grapes produced wines that lack acidity, nevertheless they have strong and mellow tannins. The best wines come from the vineyards planted in heavy soil (Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Emilion), and where the grapes were drastically selected to limit yields. On the whole, the wines from this vintage are brimming with charm and distinction. The white wines are spectacular, particularly the legendary wines of Haut-Brion and Laville Haut-Brion. The Sauternes from this vintage, harvested before the red wines, are truly historical. Powerful and complex, they are absolute masterpieces of concentration and richness.
