Bordeaux | 1980 vintage
A mediocre vintage for most of the red wines. After a cool and rainy summer, and a milder autumn, the grapes were harvested in the rain. The majority of the wines are light, acidic and lacking in character. The Graves and Margaux appellations were very successful (particularly Château Margaux) and in lesser measures, Pauillac, which produced elegant and supple wines with a good cellaring capacity. However, 1980 is an excellent year for Sauternes, with lovely mature, rich and intense wines.
