Tellier

If you’re a lover of Grower Champagnes (those crafted by the same people who grow the grapes), then Domaine Tellier should be on your radar. Let’s head to Moussy, near Épernay, where tradition meets a forward-thinking approach in the heart of the Champagne region.

Brothers Alexandre and Quentin Tellier took over the family estate in 2016. They cultivate 18 parcels mostly located mid-slope across five villages, rooted in a chalk-rich terroir. Their vines average 35 years, with the oldest planted back in 1964. The estate has adopted organic-inspired practices to nurture its vineyards and obtained the HVE certification (High Environmental Value) the same year the brothers took over. To bring out the unique character of each terroir, all plots are vinified separately, either blended or showcased individually in single-parcel cuvées. In the winery, the clear wines ferment and mature for eight months in oak casks, demi-muids or "foudres" (large wooden tuns), allowing the aromas to evolve slowly and naturally. All the Champagnes are vintage wines, capturing the unique conditions of the year they were crafted. After bottling, they spend 40 months ageing on their lees before being bottled with minimal, or no dosage. The result in the glass is an elegant, lively Champagne that will shine at the table alongside refined cuisine.
