        Donnhoff

For over 40 years, the Dönnhoff domaine has been offering a superb range of white wines crafted on 25 hectares in the heart of the Nahe region. This German wine-producing region overlooking the valley has taken Riesling to stratospheric heights so that it reigns supreme in this magnificent, but inhospitable, green valleyed landscape with its fresh damp climate and blend of schist and volcanic rock soil. Helmut Dönnhoff and his son Cornelius craft superb Rieslings with great flair. Together, they get the best out of this versatile grape variety which adapts wonderfully to the diverse terroirs of this region when you know how to preserve its full purity. The domaine's philosophy for ageing wines consists of striking a balance between tradition and modernity (stainless steel vats and German oak barrels). The Dönnhoff domaine works with meticulous care! In the Qualitätswein mit Prädikat (QmP) category, indicating a superior quality appellation, there are six levels of grape maturity (and hence 6 different degrees of sweetness). Kabinett is dry, light, fresh and well balanced. Spätlese is produced from late harvests and is therefore more intense and sweet. Auslese has an even later harvest and produces a sweet wine which should be cellared for several years. Beerenauslese is made from a selection of noble rot grapes. Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA) is made from a selection of grapes affected by noble rot which are raisined on the stem. The final level is Eiswein (ice wine) made with grapes harvested in the early winter.
