        Charlot Père & Fils

Charlot Père et Fils is a small family farm located on 4 hectares in the Marne valley. Often, this kind of domain is just a ""grape provider"" for the great champagne houses, but the Charlot family have been producing their own cuveés for several generations and always extremely carefully. And all this for the happiness of loyal customers, generation after generation. Since 2009, history has accelerated in the domain. In that year, the very young Pierre Charlot took over from his grandmother Solange who was still making wine at over 88 years old! Pierre therefore recovered 4 hectares of very well-exposed vineyards in the south of the Marne valley, which means the grapes can mature well. The vineyard includes a large majority of Pinot Meunier supplemented by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Pierre Charlot’s philosophy is to produce grapes and wines as naturally as possible. Advised by one of his cousins who is a close friend of Pierre Masson (one of the “popes” of biodynamics in France), he cultivates his vines in a spirit which is very close to these guidelines. Naturally he uses native yeast and has started trials of élevage in wood in a very pragmatic way, multiplying the trials of small scale heating to fully understand the effects on the wines before standardising the usage. He started isolating parcels in cuvées that will soon be marketed. For example, a pure Chardonnay and a pure Pinot Noir with a distinct pinkish hue because Pierre Charlot refrains from discolouring his wines with coal as is often done here. This talented winemaker has been described as a ""future great star of Champagne"" by the ""Guide Champagne 2014"" of Gault & Millau. This small property produces impressive champagnes with exceptional value for money.
