Château Sigalas Rabaud 1er Grand Cru Classé 2001
The wine
Sigalas-Rabaud is a star at any age. When young, with its slightly golden hints, it exhales aromas of exotic fruit (mango, papaya) and citrus fruit (orange). After 15-20 years' keeping, it takes on a golden colour with coppery hints, with a bouquet tending toward spice and saffron. Orange can still be detected, but more in the marmalade register. A superb Sauternes from the rarefied company of the best dessert wines in the world.
About the Producer Château Sigalas Rabaud
Sigalas Rabaud was awarded premier cru status in the Classification of 1855. Like the best Haut-Sauternais wines, Sigalas Rabaud is rich in liqueur, concentrated and powerful. However, it stands out with a rare elegance which is much sought-after by a circle of aficionados. The Lambert family runs this estate with great skill, with Laure de Lambert Compeyrot heading up the domaine since 2013. She now fights with her son to win recognition for the dry Sauternes appellation. In fact, two dry wines are produced at Sigalas: La Sémillante and La Demoiselle.
