Rioja DOCa Vina Arana Reserva La Rioja Alta 2005
The wine
This cherry red wine has a spicy and leathery nose with a hint of wood. The palate is complex and deep, with tobacco, spice and toasted flavours. These empyreumatic notes come from three years of maturing in American oak barrels. In keeping with the traditional method, the wine is decanted from one barrel to another.
About the Producer La Rioja Alta
Rioja Alta, which was established in 1890 by five Basque winegrowers, is one of the largest wineries in the Rioja region. The winery expanded in the 1970s, creating a new cellar and buying prestigious new parcels. Vines are managed in an environmentally friendly manner to get the very best out of each terroir and the cellar belongs to that rare breed of vineyards with its own cooperage producing the barrels used for vinification.
