Richebourg Grand Cru Mongeard-Mugneret (Domaine) 1985
The wine
The Richebourg from Mongeard-Mugneret impresses with its complex aromas: ripe or candied red and dark fruits, musk, leather and humus. A lingering and fabulously rich aroma are what make this cru one of the world's greatest wines. Several decades of cellaring are often required for this wine to reach its best.
About the Producer Mongeard-Mugneret
Today, the Mongeard-Mugneret domain manages, in true Burgundy tradition, a large number of vineyards which spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, encompassing the most prestigious "villages" (Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits Saint Georges and Savigny les Beaune). The heart of the domain remains at Vosne Romanée. Vincent Longeard, Jean's son, endeavours not only to look after and improve the family's heritage, but also to extend the domain's range of wines whenever an opportunity arises. Today, the domain counts roughly 30 hectares, spread over 33 appellations producing Burgundy whites and Aligotés, but it mainly produces red wines that come from the best vineyards of the Côte. The vineyard, situated at mid-slope, is south-east orientated and on clay-limestone soil.
