Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Pietranera Riserva Tenut II Faggeto 2006
The wine
The Montepulciano production area is located in the eponymous municipality, in the province of Sienna in Tuscany. The vineyard is located in the hills at between 250 and 600 metres above sea level, in an area that is particularly well-suited to wine-growing due to its climate and geology. Regular rainfall combined with persistent aridity ensures relatively cool, favourable temperatures throughout the year. The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has been DOCG-classified (AOC equivalent) since 1980. The exclusively red Vino Nobile di Montepulciano must be aged from 12 to 24 months in barrels to meet the DOCG criteria (either fully in barrels, 18 months in barrels and 6 months in vats or 12 months in barrels, 6 months in bottles and the remainder in vats). Those that are aged for three years followed by 6 months in bottles are awarded the "Riserva" distinction. These wines combine power and finesse and are well-suited to ageing.
