Grand vin de Reignac 2009
The wine
This grand vin is two-thirds Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Harvested from vines around 40 years old, it is aged in barrels for up to 19 months. Its seductive nose develops aromas of red and black fruit (blackcurrant and bilberry), empyreumatic notes and slight animal notes (woody, with tones of vanilla). On the palate it is dense, with body, while maintaining a good balance thanks to its fine freshness. It also presents great depth, with firm tannins and good length. A wine with plenty of personality that is perfect with cuts of red meat and dishes containing mushrooms.
About the Producer Château de Reignac
Located in the Entre-deux-Mers region (in Saint-Loubès), the Château Reignac was built in the 16th century by Seigneur Baude de Peyron. Since 1990, it has been owned by Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot who elevated it, within a few years, to being one of the best domaines in Bordeaux with the help of the consultant oenologist Michel Rolland. The vineyard extends over 80ha in one piece; it is planted mostly with Merlot, but also Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and, over 2 ha, Sauvignon and Sémillon. In a few years this domaine could impose its style and show the full potential of its appellation. It is now recognised as one of the jewels of the region, able to rival the renowned crus of Bordeaux.
