An oddity among Châteauneuf wines, this micro-cuvée born of century-old Cinsault vines is as rare as it is sumptuous.

More info

Named after the plot from where it originated, F601 is an oddity amidst the Grenache-dominated wines of Châteauneuf du Pape, which allow up to 15 different grape varieties to be present. Indeed, this cuvée is entirely made of Cinsault from extremely old vines planted in 1928 on a highly geologically complex piece of land: a deep layer of quartz eroded into fine sand, a blue clay seam ensuring water supply during hot weather, gravel and rolled pebbles, all hallmarks of the Châteauneuf terroir. The grapes cultivated following biodynamic techniques are vinified with great care and the wine is aged in demi-muids (600-litre barrels) over an extensive period of time.
First produced in 2018, only a mere 800 bottles have been released every harvest since then. This rare and critically acclaimed wine will seduce you with its floral and spiced bouquet, where small red and black fruits blend with a herbaceous nuance. Powerful and silky on the palate, this wine leaves a lingering impression of freshness. A truly fine achievement.

About the Producer Saint Préfert

Isabel Ferrando, a former banker, bought Domaine Saint-Préfert in 2003. The vineyard was planted in 1930 on gravel and pebble soils on the southern side of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Isabel has been producing three cuvées of Châteauneuf-du-Pape red since the beginning of her winemaking career. Her wines reflect the appellation's warm, well-drained and sunny terroir to perfection, and are therefore imbued with candied, chocolatey and empyreumatic notes. Thanks to this determined woman's endeavours, this sustainably-run property is one of the top names in the appellation.
