Viré-Clessé Cuvée Levroutée Domaine de la Bongran (J.Thevenet) 2017
15%
0.75L
Intensity
An extremely rare wine vinified the typical way for the appellation. Extensive ageing is highly recommended.
More info“Mâcon master”, Jean Thévenet, is both a pioneer of natural winemaking and a staunch defender of so-called “levrouté” wines (presenting residual sugars from grapes picked very ripe, late in the season). He vinifies Chardonnay grapes which are picked overripe (some fruit even reaches noble rot) and undergo malolactic fermentation before a long, 20-month ageing process in tuns on fine lees. This Mâconnais white wine is golden-robed with an expressive bouquet, exuding perfumes of cooked apple, mushrooms and truffle. Complex and long lasting in the mouth, it perfectly balances ripe yellow fruit aromas with fresh acidity. A wine well-suited to long cellaring (15-20 years), it is best decanted at least two hours before serving.

About the Producer Charly Thévenet
Founded in Villié Morgon four generations ago, the Thévenet family domain is managed by Jean-Paul Thévenet. His son, Charly Thévenet, has created a wine in dedication to him, baptised Grain & Granit. Behind these family estate vines are organic farming methods . The vinification is a simple process where the wines are neither filtered nor clarified. Jean-Paul Thévenet joins the likes of winemakers Marcel Lapierre and Jean Foillard who have been instrumental in giving Beaujolais wines a new name in the natural wine scene. The wines he produces are elegant, juicy and show good capacity for ageing.
