Montrachet Grand Cru Jacques Prieur (Domaine) 2004

The wine

Famed since the end of the 18th century, the very special nature of the Montrachet vineyard contributes to its stature as the greatest white wine in the world. As always, it is the poverty of its terroir, located on a barren hill of pebbles and clay (Montrachet meaning "bald mountain" in ancient French) that generates a wine of such unusual complexity and richness. Straddling the communes of Puligny and Chassagne, the vineyard is today divided between 17 owners. With its beautiful golden visual aspect, the aromas of this rich, unctuous wine literally coat the palate with notes of yellow and white fruit, spices and cream. The nose is dense, rich and complex, with aromas of fresh mint, eucalyptus, truffles and pastry. The palate is intense and powerful, with mineral, roasted, toasted and menthol flavours. The aromatic persistence, the mouthfeel and heat at the end of the palate are incomparable. A wine of intense concentration, requiring many years to reach perfection. When at its peak, Jacques Prieur's Montrachet develops an unparalleled aromatic richness and complexity. This wine can be aged for 10 years or more.

About the Producer Jacques Prieur

The Domaine Jacques Prieur is one of the most prestigious domains in Burgundy. It is the only domain with vines in the five mythic appellations of Chambertin, Musigny, Clos de Vougeot, Corton Charlemagne and Montrachet. Since 2007, 70% of the domain is owned by the Labruyère family (Clos du Moulin at Moulin-à-vent and Château Rouget at Pommerol), who bought Antonin Rodet's shares. Jean-Pierre Labruyère is the manager. The other 30% is still owned by the Prieur heirs. Half of the distribution is taken care of by Antonin Rodet and the other half by the domain. The wines are vinified by Nadine Gublin since 1990, renowned oenologist for her work, the precision and the quality of her wines. It is now one of the most prestigious from Burgundy. It is the only domain with vines in the five biggest iconic appellations of Chambertin, Musigny, Clos de Vougeot, Corton Charlemagne and Montrachet.
