A delicate and refined, but of course nicely structured Chambolle-Musigny. It pairs equally well with red meats, feathered game and a range of cheeses.

More info

In 1872, William Ponsot bought a domain in Morey-Saint-Denis. Since then, several generations have passed by and the vineyard has grown. It was Hippolyte in 1932 who started the bottling at the property itself and export to the United States began in 1934. His son Jean-Marie features among the pioneers of clonal selection in Burgundy, at the start of the ‘60s. In 1972, his wife Jacqueline provided her inherited plots of Gevrey-Chambertin and Chapelle-Chambertin. The domain has remained exclusively a family domain and the various sections are owned by Jean-Marie and Jacqueline Ponsot’s children who continue to produce wines outside fashionable methods. In early 2017, Laurent Ponsot announced (for personal reasons) his departure from the domain he had been running for many years and it is now his sister Rose-Marie Ponsot who has taken over the reins. With his son Clément, Laurent Ponsot in turn took over the trading business (developed since 1989), wines from purchased grapes which he then vinified; he quickly developed this business and remains the owner of a quarter of the agricultural property of Domaine Ponsot. The domaine harvests much later than traditional vinification methods, without new wood nor any filtration operation; this gives the wine its spectacular richness.
The Clos-Vougeot from Domaine Ponsot unfurls subtle aromas of rose, violet, blackberry and raspberry, as well as notes of liquorice. The palate is rich, full-bodied and elegant and the length is remarkable.

About the Producer Ponsot

In 1872, William Ponsot bought a domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis. Since then, several generations have followed and the vineyard has grown. Hippolyte began bottling at the domaine in 1932 and exporting to the United States in 1934. His son Jean-Marie was among the pioneers of clonal selection in Burgundy in the early 1960s. In 1972, his wife Jacqueline inherited several parcels of Gevrey-Chambertin and Chapelle-Chambertin. Today the heritage remains exclusively with the family, and the different parts of the domaine are held by Jean-Marie and Jacqueline Ponsot's children who continue to produce wines outside the fashionable phenomena. The domaine harvests very late, fully respecting traditional winemaking methods, without new wood or any filtration operation, resulting in spectacularly rich wines. In early 2017, Laurent Ponsot, who had run the domaine for many years, left the domaine (for personal reasons) and it is now his sister Rose-Marie Ponsot who has taken over.
