Côtes du Roussillon Domaine Sarda-Malet Le Sarda Jérôme Malet 2001
The wine
A blend of (limited yields of) Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Maccabeu cultivated on soils of clay, limestone and silica, this wine was matured in vats in order to preserve the purity of its fruity aromas. Its colour is ruby red, with delicious aromas lifted by a nice vibrancy and superb length on the finish. Full-bodied, with fine, silky tannins, this would be the ideal accompaniment for slow-cooked lamb.
About the Producer Sarda-Malet
To the south of Perpignan, Sarda-Malet has 51 hectares of vines, in the Côtes-du-Roussillon and Rivesaltes appellations. Two old grape varieties are the soul of the vineyard (Carignan and Grenache Noir planted in the 1940s), while the Mourvèdre and Syrah vines have been replanted. Currently managed by Jérôme Malet, the property was created in 1984 by his father. "My mother and I share the work so as to create the conditions to produce the wines of our dreams. It is a pleasure to see the vines grow each year and watch over the various stages, from flowering to harvest; for me, the wine is made in the vineyard. The nature of the grapes and the variety can then be fully expressed through the terroir. The property is managed according to sustainable farming principles.
