Montrachet Grand Cru Leflaive (Domaine) 2000
The wine
The Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive comes from a plot acquired in 1991. The cuvée comes from seven plots, which all lie on clay and limestone soil. The vines biodynamic and so of course the harvest is carried out by hand with the grapes going through a very rigorous sorting process. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, 18% of which are new. Aging then lasts 12 months in barrels then, 6 months in vats, before bottling.
The nose is of infinite complexity, it starts with white fruits, plum preserve, and hazelnuts. On the palate, it’s a whole world apart, a dry wine with incredibly rich substance. The fullness in the mouth is extraordinary.
A dream that every Chardonnay afficionado must experience once. For aging, needless to say that the wine will continue to develop over decades.
About the Producer Leflaive
The name of the Domaine Leflaive will long remain associated with its famous ambassador Anne-Claude who, with the energy of the pioneers, converted the domaine to biodynamics between 1993 and 1997. The Leflaive family has lived in Puligny since 1717. But it was the genius of a marine engineer, a student of the Ecole Polytéchnique, which was needed to revive an area devastated by phylloxera. After participating in the design of the first French submarine, Joseph Leflaive returned to his native village, replanted and raised the profile of the domaine's wines well beyond the French borders. The third generation, Olivier and his cousin Anne-Claude, ensured that the domaine was at the heights of Burgundian hierarchy. Tasting the domaine's wines is a unique experience for any wine lover. The special attention paid to the vineyard and to the winemaking allows its particularly rich wines to reveal all the subtleties of the different Burgundian terroirs. Montrachet, Batârd, Chevalier, Bienvenues-Bâtard and the premier crus Folatières or Pucelles are wines with fundamentally different identities. These are rare cuvées, which every wine lover should taste at least once!
